what would happen if the executive branch greatly exceeded its authority under the constitution

If one branch exceeds it's authority then all the branches would be able to and essentially there would be corruption amongst all the branches. However, the checks and balances were perfectly set to ensure none of the branches greatly exceeded it's authority.
