An easy way to make them have a common denominator is to multiply the fraction by the denominator of the other fraction for both the top and the bottom (the same number needs to multiply by the top and the bottom so that it's equivalent to multiplying by one, which doesn't change a number).

1/4=7/28
2/7=8/28
