Given: 4y = 2x - 10; y = 6

Prove: x = 17

4y=2x-10

Plug in y

4(6)=2x-10

Simplify

24=2x-10

+10 to both sides

24+10=2x-10+10

Simplify

34=2x

÷2 both sides

17=x

x=17
